New Year, New Release, New Goals

Cheryl Wyatt here. First I want to let you know that I have a new book out. It's ON SHELVES NOW and titled A Soldier's Devotion in case you're interested. If you're familiar with my Wings of Refuge series, this is Vince's story. He and his goals are a LOT different at the end of the book than the beginning. Hope you enjoy it.

For some reason, I don't like stating that I have made a New Year's resolution. I guess it's because I tended to be a perfectionist and put impossible expectations on myself. Sure, all things are possible with God but sometimes we want to work on one thing and He wants to work on another.

So this year, before making a resolution I asked Him what HE wanted for me as far as a personal goal. His answer was that He wants me to start believing the absolute best about people again. Somewhere along the way I have become jaded I guess. LOL! But I do remember a time when I more easily gave people the benefit of the doubt and believed and stated the best about people. It's also an antidote to gossip of any sort.

Last year my goal was to listen more than talk. Not sure I'm there yet, so that one will carry over too.

My spiritual goal is to immerse myself back in the Bible, like--serious study time--every day.

I'd love to know if you make resolutions and why or why not. Also, I'd love to hear your personal, spiritual and business goals aka resolutions for 2010. Don't be shy...talk away!

Cheryl, I love your goals - we should all aspire to them! I wish I could listen more to His voice within the lessons He sets before me. Here's hoping that you stick to your resolutions with His help.

Ramona, I LOVE what you said about listening to His voice more. When I sat under Cynthia Ruchti as VP of American Christian Fiction Writers for a short time last year I had the honor of observing that woman and how she listens to God. She probably has no idea how big an impact she made on me and my faith as I watched her wait, wait, wait on God. I aspired then to be more like that, to wait and to listen more where God's concerned.

Thanks so much for stopping by and for sharing your heart.

Hugs!

Cheryl, I have to tell you. I already have your book and the cover is all the more gorgeous up close!! I LOVE it!! : D I'm reading Ready-Made Family right now....it's good....surprise, surprise!

Anyway, one of my goals(I had to say one aloud yesterday in church on the spot!) is to pick a/the college that's right for me. It's a big commitment and unlike all my schooling thus far, I get to choose where I want to go...so much pressure! Lol!

ANyway, that's not very "deep" but it's something...I'd make up an excuse anyday to be able to chat with you, Cheryl : )
Keep on keeping on!

Hi Cheryl, each year I aim to read at least one book a week knowing its acheivable.
I haven't really set New year Goals. I have been working on a long term Goal. which will take around 5 years. I want to go to Canada and possilbly work for about 6 months but need to finish my courses and earn some money first.
Also this year I need to learn to not explain why I say no to something ie someone offers me an item I dont want instead of saying No thanks I will say No thanks its not what I need or try to explain why I dont need or want it.
Also I wont feel guilty or try to justify having free time and watching tv or doing something whenever I want to. I have people say oh I wish I had the time or will make a comment like im wasting time. I need to learn Its my time and I am on my own and really enjoying the freedom to be able to do what I want and not be made to feel guilty about it.

I used to make resolutions as a kid. I was always going to be "better." Then I'd put marks in my diary and see how I'd failed. Then I stopped keeping a diary. Then I stopped making resolutions.

A great resolution and sure to give positive results to you and to the other person. Reminds me of the story about the two different travelers who stopped in a village. Both traveled the same path but the first had only negative comments about all the previous people encountered while the second only positive. God bless you in that positive spirit!

Jenny, I love your points about not being driven or bound by guilt. I struggled with that a lot before meeting my husband, who has taught me to care a lot less about what others think. LOL!

So glad you stopped by.

Sheila, that's so funny and the way you put it made me laugh. So true. That's exactly why I'm resistant to calling goals for a new year a resolution. LOL!

Thanks for coming by and sharing your thoughts.

Cheryl,
I just found you - my first visit - pleased to meet another fellow believer.

I like that you first asked God what He wanted you to work on in the new year.

We get blindsided by our own agendas and our weaknesses get pushed aside for the more dominant strengths. God sees them all. His agenda, of course, is to bring everything into the light of His love so we can love not only ourselves, but those around us - with the awesome love of the Lord.

You've started the year in a right direction. When the Lord speaks, we'd better listen. :) Obedience is very rewarding.

Praying that the Lord opens your heart even bigger then it already appears to be, and that you see Jesus' autograph on everyone you meet this year.

Enlarge her territory Lord!

I forgot to say that I have decided to memorize scripture this year. I want the Word not only hidden in my heart but right on the tip of my tounge :)
