I went kicking and screaming, but eventally I broke down and purchased a Kindle. Yes, yes, I know. We've all heard the yeas and nays. So, before you all jump in, let me say:
My name is Pamela Tracy and I'm a readaholic.
I figured it out once. If I read a book a day and lived to be 103, I probably wouldn't make it through my TBA file (partly because I got really behind on my LIS book club).
Some of the books patiently waiting in my closet for their turn are so old that when the heroine needs help, she doesn't whip out her cell phone and punch in numbers. (I still have Harper Monograms waiting their turn and a few Loveswepts!) See, some of those books were written before Jane Q. Public could afford a cell phone or maybe before they existed as we know them.

But, I digress. I still very much want the print version. I purchased the Kindle because I can read it in the car without getting a headache. For some reason, I've never been able to read in the car for more than a minute before nausea followed by pounding headache. Then, my sister handed me her Kindle while we were driving from AZ to CA, and after reading for fifteen minutes, I wanted one.
My Kindle is my purse book.
The reason I'm blogging about the Kindle is because I uploaded my Bible so I'd have it with me everywhere. The Bible is better in print form. My fingers can fly over the little Kindle pad, but I have to go through about six functions if I want to change to a chapter and verse and keep up with whoever is teaching. With a print Bible, I just flip the page. I can underline easily, but keeping notes is tedious, and if I want to read them later, they're a bit hard to find. Plus, I'll never stumble on a chance margin note. I have to look for them.

Are you?

Pamela, YES YES YES!! I am a readaholic, too! Loved your blog. I haven't broken down and purchased a Kindel, but am considering an iPad. After seeing you are able to read in the car with a Kindel, it makes me consider the prospect of trying one. I may be kicking and screaming, as well. :)
Pamela,
I've always had the same complaint--nausea if I read in a car. We're twins. So will you buy your twin sister a Kindle????
YES!! I got a Kindle for my 18th birthday this year : )
I like it, but still find myself reading a lot of print books. I mean, I have soooooo many!! LOL! See I can't read my Kindle in the car either *grumble grumble* I'm really glad that you found something that worked! I just can't read in the car. Period. I will puke *grin* I have trouble on boats sometimes too otherwise I do fine.
Kelli, I was looking into iPads too but probably won't be getting one at this time....I highly suggest checking out the Kindle for your reading pleasure ; )

Kelli,
So good to meet you! We go camping a lot, and the drive is no longer exciting. I'm loving the Kindle for that reason.
Lyn,
You know, the more I get to know you, the more I wish we could truly sit down and meet. I didn't buy the Kindle until it came down to $140 in price. And, with the number of free books they gave me, the cost was doable.
Hannah,
I can't read for hours, but I can for like 30 minute spans. I want an Ipad too, but my husband is grumbling.
I'm like you, Pamela! LOL.I got a Kindle and already it is matching my TBR pile for real.
But I truly love the Kindle. I have gotten where I read it in bed, too, besides carrying it in the car.
Truly a cool gadget.
I haven't gotten a Kindle or anything like that yet. I am resiting partly because I don't have the money. I also don't know if I can get use to curling up with a screen.
Crystal,
Yes, it's easier in bed, too! Plus, I went to a talk by Christina Skye last Saturday and she mentioned an author and book. Because it was easy to order, I did it right away. Usually by the time I get to the bookstore, I forget the book I wanted.
Laura,
I heard the Kindle will be as low as 90$ on the day after Thanksgiving. You might want to check. I didn't buy until the price went down.
Thanks for dropping by.
i love books
