Lyn Cote--Weird, Weird Winter

Am I the only one who thinks that this January has been strange?
Seattle gets a foot of snow!
Tornadoes in Arkansas and Alabama!
North and South Dakota are in a snow drought!

The weather is a constant topic of conversation. Any ideas why?

Personally I like to use weather in my stories since a storm, tornado, lightning, etc can raise the tension. My first Love Inspired, Never Alone, took place during a very hot, very stormy summer. Did anyone read it? Do you know what weather phenomenon I used for the climax?

So tell me about the weather you're having at home and if it's the usual. And answer that question if you can. I'm giving away one free download of my latest "wintery" ebook, Winter's Secret. I'll annouce the winner on my blog on Sunday!--Lyn

I live in Central Florida, so our winters aren't real cold, although when it gets into the 40's and 50's it is COLD for us, our family in the Nebraska says wah, wah, wah, lol. This winter has been about 10 degrees warmer than normal most of the time but there have been some big swings, from the 40's to the 80's. Overall no complaints here, lol.

wfnren, interesting. I am unhappy. The company Tree-Ripe that usually drives a semi of FL citrus up to us in the winter has not come two years in a row. Not enough prime fruit to bring north. Bummer.

Fun post. I use weather all the time in my books. One reviewer claimed it was like another character in Angel Sister. But I've done tornadoes, floods, snowstorms, heat, drought. Guess if I can't think of anything else, I write about the weather. Raining here in KY, but I'm liking that better than snow because I can't hole up at home. I'd have to be driving out in it.

Don't enter me for the download since I'm not tech savvy or modern enough to have an e-reader. :)

Hi, Ann! Love KY-Beautiful rolling hills! I bought a Kindle and it took me 3 months to get up the nerve to turn it on!!! Still prefer books, but felt I wanted to at least dip my toe in this brave new world!

Having a fairly typical January where I lve in Britain. It was VERY wet this morning, but got out clear this afternoon & we saw a bit of sunshine.

Here our weather is quite changeable anyway, & I believe we have the reputation of always talking about the weather! Actually, it's a good conversation starter. You mention the weather, it breaks the ice & then conversation gets going.

Sorry, I've not read "Never Alone". I'm guessing possibly a tornado, hurricane, or cyclone - something of that ilk for the climax. I think weather is great to use in stories. We can all relate to it, & it can provide a great atmosphere, whether a calm sunny, warm day; thick fog; terrific downpour or a snowstorm.

I live in Georgia. We don't always have cold, cold winters but lately the weather is crazy! Today, it's like spring outside. Two days ago, we had such fog, I felt like we were in England. Last week, I had to bundle up to walk the dog. Now I am sitting here watching the weather to see when the tornados might hit us later tonight. Crazy! www.sherriwilsonjohnson.com

    Wendy and Sherri,
I guess on both sides of the Atlantic that we can agree that our weather is always the suprise factor!

We are having a mild winter unlike the last two which were miserably cold here in Florida. I'm loving our mild, mild winter.

Glad to hear you're both doing well, Kim and Merrillee. Our problem is that we need MORE snow--for winter sports & tourists!

Lyn, I have been reading LI books for several years, but I haven't had the pleasure of reading NEVER ALONE.
As to the weather here in MS, we have been wet, wet, wet. Several times the road I live on has been impassable. We also have not been nearly as cold as usual, though our coldest weather tends to be Feb., we usually have had more days below freezing than we have had this year. We even had some days in the upper 70's this month. The bad part is then were followed by days where the high plunged into the 30's.

I enjoy reading books featuring weather. I don't have E reader though (yet) so don't enter me for the book!

This has been a mild, wet, gray, dismal winter in Michigan. No sun reflecting off snow this year. The snow fall has been. . . maybe. . .18 inches all season - when it was nothing to see that in one storm in the past. We had some real wild winter weather before our kids were born - I remember being snowed in for days - up to a week many times from the time I was a youngster living a mile off Lake Michigan to married and living seventy some miles inland. It's been a very dreary winter and it's effecting my writing energy!
Our ski resorts are suffering horribly - missing out on the holiday traffic that nets the most income for some of them near us each year.
Personally, I do better when the seasons make the complete change between each and I get to acclimate completely to each one. This has been up and down/cold and mild and wet/dry - just not natural!

So far, we are having a mild winter. We have had a few cold spells but overall the weather has been unusual. We had temperatures in the 50's and even into the 60's. Quite unusual for our area. I was told that the weather would change in February and be much colder. We haven't had hardly any snow but we have had a lot of rain.

    Hi Lyn,
I have not read your book either. Though would love to get a chance to do so. I think weather is wonderful not only for setting a scene, but also as a conversation starter between strangers. It is something that we can all relate to and it can unite strangers. Would love a chance to be able to read your books.
Hope that you have a great week.
