Christmas In October

Hello, Terri Reed here.  I can't believe Christmas is only 73 days away!! Here's a link to a countdown you want to keep track: http://www.xmasclock.com

I have two books out this month, both are holiday themed.
Identity Unknown is a fast-paced, edge of your seat romantic suspense. A man with no memory is marked for murder. A female deputy sheriff with trust issues is determined to learn the truth. They must work together to uncover the past and stop the threat or they won't live to see Christmas Day.
A Family Under the Christmas Tree is a charming, delightful story to warm your heart. A man juggling sudden parenthood of a five-year-old and a growing business doesn't need the distraction of his neighbors granddaughter. A woman with wanderlust is determined to keep her heart from growing attached. A matchmaking grandma and a rambunctious dog conspire to form bring these two together.

A Heroic Christmas

Susan Sleeman here. I've been attending weekly sessions of our local police academy to get insights into the job of  a police officer. I not only get to hear from the fine men and women who protect me, but I'll also get to go on a ride along. I'll spend four hours of a shift with the patrol officer traveling the streets of my city and seeing his or her job first hand. I can't wait. I'm so in awe of our law enforcement officers and the troops who defend our country. I see each and everyone of them as heroes who deserve our utmost respect.

So when my editor asked me to join with Debby Guisti and Jodie Bailey to create a Christmas themed novella featuring military heroes, I wholeheartedly accepted and enjoyed every minute of writing my story, Special Ops Christmas. The book is releasing in a few days and here's a quick description of the stories and I hope you'll look for it in stores or at online retailers.

HOLIDAY DEFENDERS

THIS HOLIDAY SEASON, THREE MILITARY MEN OF HONOR MUST DO EVERYTHING THEY CAN TO SAVE CHRISTMAS

Mission: Christmas Rescue by Debby Giusti
On the run from a killer, Elizabeth Tate must accept U.S. Army Captain Nick Fontaine’s protection for the sake of her young niece and nephew. Now her life is in the hands of the very man who broke her heart years ago.

Special Ops Christmas by Susan Sleeman
Researcher Claire Reed’s top secret project is stolen, putting her at risk of being kidnapped to unlock it. Her undercover bodyguard—her former love, Green Beret Travis Chapman—is on his most dangerous mission yet.

Homefront Holiday Hero by Jodie Bailey
When someone tries to kill the daughter of a military official, U.S. Army major Tyler Rainey must keep Kelly Walters from harm…while guarding his own heart against very unexpected feelings.

Christmas is Coming!

Susan Sleeman here. Okay, don't panic. You still have plenty of time to get that Christmas shopping done, but I wanted to stop in to tell you that October means Love Inspired Christmas books will start releasing. I was fortunate enough this year to be able to write two of them. How fun it was to write about Christmas in the heat of summer. LOL

The first book, Holiday Defenders is compilation of stories with three amazing military heroes. I got to write this book with Debby Guisti and Jodie Bailey. I am so humbled to be included with them. This book is available for preorder and you can enter to win a copy at Goodreads. Click on the picture below to go to Amazon to preorder your copy.

The second story is the first in my new First Responders series and it releases in November. It to is available for preorder, too. Here are the details.

SILENT NIGHT STANDOFF

HOSTAGE SITUATION
When armed robbers strike her bank, hostage negotiator Skyler Brennan’s life is on the line. Rescue comes from the last person she thought she could count on—the ex-boyfriend who chose his job over their relationship.
FBI agent Logan Hunter knows how much is resting on this case. The promotion of his dreams…and the safety of the woman he’s never been able to forget. But when an unexpected twist in the case pulls Logan in two separate directions, he’ll have to make an impossible choice. Will he manage to have it all by Christmas—a career and love—or will he lose them both?
So, my question of the day. Have you started your Christmas shopping yet? I confess I have bought two gifts already. I'm a planner. What can I say.

Christmas is Coming

Susan Sleeman here. Okay, no need to panic from the title of my blog post. You have eighteen weeks until Christmas, but I’m thinking Christmas this week. You see, I have two Christmas themed books releasing this year. Silent Night Standoff in November and a military themed novella in October. I just received my author copies of the novella and want to tell you about it because it's a new venture for me.

The book is titled Holiday Defenders with three military novellas. Mine is titled Special Ops Christmas, and I’m joined in the book by two wonderful Love Inspired Suspense authors, Jodie Bailey and Debby Giusti. I love, love, love the cover, but  . . . it reminds me that Christmas shopping is just around the corner.

And seeing the packages on the cover got me to thinking about presents I’ve received in the past and reminiscing about my favorite ones. I’d have to say my all time favorite present is an opal necklace, ring, and earring set I received from my husband on our first Christmas together. Maybe it's because I like  jewelry, but I think it's more likely that I love it because it was my first Christmas of many to come with my amazing husband.

So what about you? Have you given Christmas shopping a thought yet? Do you have a favorite gift?

SPECIAL OPS CHRISTMAS
Operation Christmas
For Green Beret Travis Chapman, special operations and covert missions are the norm. When his country calls, he reports for duty without question. Until now. Until he’s tasked with protecting a woman he’d once loved then shattered his heart. He’d rather go AWOL than spend time with civilian researcher Claire Reed. Even when he learns that the research project she’s poured six years of her life into is stolen, he has to think twice about exposing his heart to her again.

But everything changes when he hears that the prototype and specs for the Army’s latest virtual training program are worthless without knowledge only Claire possesses, making her a target for abduction by the cunning thief. Despite his wounded heart, Travis won’t let anything happen to Claire so he puts aside his feelings and goes undercover to keep her safe. Now all he needs to do is convince strong, stubborn Claire that she must rely on him if they are to keep the training program out of the hands of subversive military groups.

Gardening and reading - two favorite things to do!

Susan Sleeman here. Summer’s in full swing in Oregon and I have to share a few pictures from my backyard. I love the multi-color of the two tall stands of zebra grass. It's also beautiful in the fall and winter if you leave the stalks with their seed heads.

The red flower is called Crocosmia and is my very favorite flower ever. I not only love the way it looks, but it’s a hummingbird magnet. They love, love, love it.

The heathers along the upper rock wall are out of bloom now, but in the spring we have a gorgeous show. They're covered in pink and purple flowers that remind me summer is coming.

I wish I could take credit for how good the garden looks, but I have so many book deadlines this summer that I have had to forgo almost everything except working and my youngest daughter who still lives at home has taken up the charge and kept it in good shape. I’m so thankful that she shares my love of gardening. It would be a huge mess without her.

And this amazing picture is of the hummingbird that came to visit her when she was staking up the Crocosmia that likes to get a bit floppy. Isn't it an incredible picture?

My other favorite thing to do is take a book outside and sit on the patio to read. I could do that all summer long and never tire of it. I'd say I continue in the winter, but we have so much rain in Oregon and it's hard to read a soggy book. LOL

So what is your favorite summer activity and have you been able to do it this summer?

DARK TIDE MISSION: PROTECT BABY

Gina Evans knows her brother was murdered—even if the police won't believe her. After catching a quick glimpse of the evidence her brother had gathered, the same criminals are after her and her baby niece. And Gina's only hope is the man she left behind. Despite the painful memories, private investigator Derrick Justice won't fail Gina and her baby. Yet now, the woman he never stopped loving and the baby he's come to adore are in a killer's crosshairs. But can Derrick trap the cold-blooded murderer before he strikes again?
