Investing in Ourselves

Terri Reed here, do you ever have those days where nothing fits? The shorts that I bought a few months ago now won't button. The dress I planned to wear in a few weeks is too tight. Being a writer requires copious hours sitting in front of a computer, which doesn't lend itself to physical activity--unless you invest in a treadmill desk. I'm seriously considering this but they are sooo expensive and I don't know if it will work for me or not. I have issues with motion sickness so I usually stay away from treadmills and such. Though I've heard you walk at such a slow pace that motion sickness shouldn't be a problem. I have also considered acquiring a height adjustment desk that slides up and down so I could work standing up for periods of time.
But the main thing for me is I need to get out of the house and exercise. I was doing pretty well for a long time--I went to the gym everyday for Pilates or Zumba. But then I had some minor injuries and health issues that prevented me from going. And now that I'm doing better its so hard to get going again. I'm determined to get back in shape. Or at least lose the inches I've gained.
I love to dance so I'm off to Zumba now. Its an hour long.
I tell myself I can invest an hour in my health.
Its important that we invest in ourselves so that we have the energy, emotional and physical well-being to invest in others.
What do you do to invest in yourself?

On Sale NOW!  Oh, and stop by my webpage at www.terrireed.com and comment. I have a present for one commenter between now and July 31st.

LONE AGENT
Under other circumstances, FBI agent Samantha Bennett might welcome a bit of backup—but not from an overprotective Mountie. She's been on the trail of a serial killer for six months and no one has ever taken the case seriously…until now. When Royal Canadian Mounted Police inspector Drew Kelley saves her life, he decides that the hunt for "Birdman" is his problem, too. Together they begin a cross-continent chase to stop the madman before he strikes again. However, Samantha fears her growing feelings for the lawman may weaken her focus, or worse—put Drew directly in the killer's sights…

They say sitting for long periods of time is as bad for our health as smoking. At my day job, I get up as much as I can. While writing at home, I'll get up every 20 minutes and do squats or go up and down the stairs ten times. I do use my treadmill daily.
Congratulations on your book, Terri! I love the cover...the tape, the open door...what happened behind that door? :)

Congratulations on your latest release, Terri!

I go to Curves three days a week. I'm supposed to take a walk the other four, but I haven't been as good about that as I should. Must make more of an effort.

Hi Precious Ladies, I've always tried to walk everyday and get into the camp pool as much as I can. PT has been great for my hip and now my back( having to slow down for my back) but hoping to build back up soon. Have fun at Zumba Terri! Jenny

Jill, I'd never heard that before. Eeek. I will make a better effort to move more often. Thank you for sharing that.
Behind the door...? You'll have to read to find out. :-)

Thank you Jackie.

Keli, I haven't looked into Curves. There isn't one near me.
Walks are good.

Jennifer, I've been going to PT as well. I found a really good one here. We joined a gym this week and there's a pool. I might try the aquafit class.
Zumba was fun! I love to dance.

I just bought one of those adjustable desks. So far my biggest challenge is staying focused while I'm standing. I guess I need to make new habit grooves in the old brain.

Related to what Jill said, I have a playlist for each book I write. I try to put in some dance music to make me get up and move for a bit. Fight Song does it for the current WIP because it's also the heroine's theme song.

Can't wait to read this, Terri.

Hello, Terri,
I'm sorry to admit I've never read your writings (yet), but your post made me laugh more than once. :-) I hope your health is improving, and to answer your question hmmm....
I'm in a season of learning how to invest in myself. Having come through a very very long road of health issues and seeing a still long road ahead, this is a crucial topic to me. For now, it's listening to my body, sleeping enough (instead of staying up too late reading blogs online and perusing the internet for deals on healthy under-eye concealer - oh the irony!), and enjoying the little blessings. The things unique to me and the personality God gave me. I love music, so resting with music on is deeply restorative sometimes instead of resting in silence. Trying to stay in connect with others when you are not well is hard, but that is another way I try to invest in myself - in rich relationships I can count on and still be useful in.
I suppose I'd better take my own advice and go to sleep instead of rambling, but thanks for the question. Sometimes as women with big hearts, I think we pour our hearts all out nurturing others without taking half as much care to nurture our own hearts in the first place.
May you find the small unique blessings for you in your day ahead,
