My foray into facebook and more...

Good morning, Jenna Mindel here.  As I've often said, I'm not gifted with technical know-how, but recently I did two things I'd put off for a long time.   I bought a new desktop tower and installed it, by myself, I might add - I know, no big deal right? But for someone with my lack of computer skills.... Anyway, it went fine.  Even though it's Windows 8.1,  I'm okay with it. :)

The second one is that I finally joined facebook.  I will admit that it's a fun place to keep up with folks I don't get the chance to see in person, but I also find it to be a black hole where time ceases to exist.  All of sudden, I've been in there milling around for forty minutes!  Yikes.

My next big upgrade is a better cell phone.  I jumped in the lake, forgetting that I had my old flip phone in my back pocket.  Fortunately, I still had my super old one.  Ancient, by today's standards. They don't even make the charger cord anymore. LOL.   I shudder to think what it will take to learn a new one.

So, in this age of techie social media, what do you like about all this connectivity and what don't you like?  Any tips on a good phone?

Have a great day and a blessed one!

Jenna, Facebook Canberra a real time waster! In fact the Internet itself is a real time waster! I don't know how you wonderful authors keep on track with your writing when it's so easy to get off track just to check your email or google something. I know some famous authors still write long hand or use a typewriter for their books. I see that there would be less distractions doing it that way. As for a phone - ask Kathleen Irene Paterka, she has just got one, I'm sure she would have some tips. I myself are in the apple world and have an iPhone 5, which is old by today's standards but I don't care, thy are so expensive and I don't know how these young people change their phones like their underwear! Lovely to read your post, and thank you for your books you sent me, I had passed one on to my friend, and you is the next one up on my TBR list. Take care.

Hey Janine!
Thanks for stopping in and posting. Yup, distractions are definitely out there - and I'm distracted easily. So yeah, it takes discipline to stay focused. LOL. I don't think I could write long hand though. I can type on the computer faster and my fingers don't cramp up. Thanks for the tip about your phone. And yes, Kathleen has a fancy new phone and an even prettier case for it. :) I'll have to check out what she has.

Have a wonderful day!

I hate that I can't have a holiday dinner with extended family and people are so focused on checking their phones that they don't really have a conversation anymore. they're so connected they're disconnected from the actual moment.

Nice job getting your computer up and running, Jenna! I'm impressed. I'll admit, I'm terrible when it comes to technology. As for the phone, I still have my flip phone and I'm fine with it. I agree with JCP.
As for Facebook, I work a full-time job, outside the home. I find it difficult to keep up with all of the social media and still find time to write...but I guess it's something we have to do.

YAY Jill - a fellow flip phone user! I loved mine- but the swim ended that. LOL. I even tried drying it out in a bag of rice, but alas, it was too late. The water had gotten inside. :(
I limit my time online, but should schedule time for it to be consistent I suppose. But half the time, I don't know what to post. LOL.

Thanks for stopping by!

JCP -
That's a good point - we're disconnected from moments. I might have to use that in a book. Can I? :)

Thanks so much for posting. Have a great day.

I love being able to keep in touch with friends and family that don't live close by. Like you I sometimes find myself tied up on the whole connection thing longer than I mean to when I get to chasing rabbit trails.

What I can't stand is the people who drive with their phones in front of them on top of the steering wheel or in their laps. I still have an iPhone 5 and I refuse to get another one, even though the battery dies just looking at it. Facebook is time consuming and hate myself when I waste time on it but I do like for finding authors and seeing what books are coming out. Janine your comments are great. My husband and I struggle with the cost of our phones and it just amazes me when you see 10 year olds with nicer phones and cases than us. Jenna my mom just made the switch to an iPhone as well. Good job on setting up your computer!

Those rabbit trails sure are tempting. :) LOL, on 10 yrs old with nicer phones. So true too. I don't ever remember needing a phone at that age!

Thanks, Shirley and Jennifer for posting. Have a lovely weekend!
